tehran - Iran rejects the US accusation of planning to assassinate President Donald Trump as 'totally baseless' and claims it is a conspiracy by Israel and other opponents to hinder US-Iran relations.

The Iranian ministry 'rejects the allegations that Iran is involved in an assassination attempt on former or current American officials', said a spokesperson. He stated that the accusations are part of a plot by Israel and other opponents of Iran 'to complicate affairs between America and Iran'.

On Friday, it was revealed that the United States has charged Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian, with being instructed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) on October 7 to devise a plan to assassinate Trump.

The assassination was supposed to take place before the elections on November 5. Shakeri, an Afghan national, is currently said to be in Iran according to US authorities.
