Indonesia blocks Tumblr to 'porn'

jakarta - The Indonesian government is blocking Tumblr due to complaints about pornographic images on the microblog site. The Ministry of Communications says it has received reports of porn on hundreds of accounts.

Indonesia has strict laws against pornography. The country prohibits all expressions and images that are considered obscene. Tumblr was therefore given the order to collect sexually explicit material from the site within two days on 28 February, the ministry reports. Because a reaction was not forthcoming, the social medium was no longer accessible on Monday in the Southeast Asian country.

It is not the first time that the Indonesian government is in danger of blocking online communication services due to material that it labels as pornographic. In November, Jakarta announced that Whatsapp would be blacked out unless its parent company Facebook would remove pornographic poison animations. Facebook followed that order and dismissed a blockade.
