- Thousands of Indian soldiers on Monday secure water supplies for the metropolis of New Delhi. Which had been threatened by turmoil in the state of Haryana, where protesters took out a channel and sabotaged a water treatment plant. Therefore, the supply of drinking water for roughly half of the 18 million residents of New Delhi was interrupted.

Authorities reported Monday that the military control of the treatment plant and the supply to the Munak channel towards Delhi was recaptured from the protesters.

The violent protests in Haryana are the work of the Jats, a farming caste whose members demand more government jobs and places in universities. The past few days have been attacked homes of directors, train stations fired, raised roadblocks and a water treatment plant was sabotaged.

The Interior Ministry sent four thousand soldiers and five thousand paramilitaries to Haryana to restore order.
