new delhi, india/islamabad, pakistan - Tensions escalate as Indian and Pakistani troops engage in gunfire along the Line of Control in Kashmir, following a violent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.

India and Pakistan Exchange Fire in Kashmir Region

Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged gunfire for the third consecutive night in the Kashmir region, with India reporting unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control separating the two countries.

Escalating Tensions

The recent flare-up follows a violent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, resulting in 26 casualties. India accuses Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism and has launched a major manhunt for the perpetrators.

Both countries lay claim to Kashmir, each administering separate parts. Various rebel groups in the Indian-administered region seek independence or union with Pakistan.
