Hungary defends anti-immigration policy

World March 19, 2018 18:12

geneva - Hungary has defended its anti-immigration policy on Monday at the United Nations (UN). The country underlined that it is determined to maintain a homogeneous, Christian society.

The UN Committee on Civil and Political Rights, which consists of independent experts, began a two-day evaluation of Hungarian policy, less than three weeks before the parliamentary elections.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán argued last Thursday that voters must fight against 'external forces and international powers' who want to impose massive immigration in their country.

To the UN panel, Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto said: 'First of all, it is a firm belief of the government that the Hungarian people have the right to live in safety, without fear of terrorist atrocities. '
