budapest - Hungary's parliament has approved exiting the International Criminal Court (ICC) following accusations against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The government's decision to leave the ICC was announced during Netanyahu's visit to Hungary.

Hungarian Parliament Approves Withdrawal from ICC

Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's government has successfully passed a motion to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), after the court accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of war crimes in Gaza.

Background

The ICC, based in The Hague, prosecutes individuals for crimes like genocide and war crimes. Hungary, defying the ICC's arrest warrant for Netanyahu, declared its intention to leave the court during Netanyahu's visit to the country.

Minister's Statement

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó mentioned that the withdrawal process could take up to a year. Netanyahu praised Hungary's decision to exit the ICC as "courageous" and "principled."
