middle east - Latest developments in the Middle East as Houthis target an Israeli airbase and defected Syrian military officers return to Syria.
Yemen-based Iran-backed Houthis have claimed to target the Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel with a hypersonic ballistic missile, aiming to continue their attacks until the blockade in Gaza Strip is lifted and attacks in Gaza and Lebanon cease.
Meanwhile, defected Syrian military officers who fled to Lebanon after the fall of the regime have been handed over to the new Syrian authorities.
Israel has shifted its military operations from southern Gaza Strip to the northern Beit Hanun town as Gazan tensions continue to rise.
In separate developments, Yossi Cohen, former head of Israeli Mossad, reportedly planned to meet with Syrian President Assad in Moscow in 2019 in an effort to negotiate the lifting of international sanctions in exchange of halting arms shipments to Lebanon.
