ollolai - Ever dreamed of a house in a picturesque Italian village? Then this is exactly the news you were waiting for. In the village of Ollolai in Sardinia, abandoned houses are sold for the symbolic amount of one euro.

There is a condition attached: you have to renovate the house within three years. And that costs an estimated 25,000 euros per house.

Mayor Efisio Arba was fed up with seeing more and more people disappear from his beloved village. The town, which lies in the middle of the Sardinian hills, has only 1200 inhabitants. Many young people leave because they can not find work.

Arba therefore started the 1-euro project. Everyone can buy a house in Ollolai, regardless of place of residence or nationality. The buyer is free to choose how he uses his house, but must therefore get started. Since the start of the project, seven houses have already been sold, three of which have already been refurbished and habitable.
