viersen - A balloonist has made an emergency landing on a motorway in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday with his hot air balloon. Because motorists could brake in time, nobody was injured in the incident on the A61 at Viersen.
According to the traffic police in Düsseldorf, the reason for the emergency landing was a technical defect to the burner of the balloon. Both lanes were temporarily closed. A police spokesman said it took only four minutes to store and dispose of the balloon. The crew consisted only of the balloonist.
