washington - Kamala Harris holds her election night celebration at Howard University in Washington where supporters believe history is in the making.

Kamala Harris hosts her election night celebration at Howard University in Washington, where supporters are already in a festive mood and believe in her potential victory.

The top Democrats gather at this private university just north of the center of the American capital for the election night results of the presidential elections. The location was explicitly chosen by Kamala Harris, an alumna of Howard University.

One attendee, Wendy Hamilton, expresses her pride stating, "We need this. America is not an angry country. History is in the making."

The crowd continues to grow on the baseball field of the university by the main building with a highlighted clock tower. Two stands face an outdoor stage where Harris is expected to appear, possibly much later. It is a mild November evening, jackets come off, and large American flags wave in the wind.

A DJ plays another hip-hop track as students dance in a long line across the field. The African-American community is well represented tonight, hoping for a historic moment with the possibility of the first black female president.

Despite Donald Trump having a lead in the preliminary results, student Moe Mangum is convinced of a Democratic victory. Mangum states, "Harris is going to win. This will be like the last Commanders game. A golden catch." Referring to the American football team from the capital, the former Red Skins, who secured a win a week earlier with a miraculous touchdown. Hope is alive.

Suddenly, a huge cheer erupts. Is Harris arriving already? Not yet. The big screen behind the stage switches to news channel CNN, showing Harris leading in the crucial swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania. The crowd gets even more excited. A classic Prince song gets everyone dancing.

When CNN goes live to a reporter at the university, the cheers become hurricane-like. People wave eagerly at the camera, hoping to catch a glimpse of themselves on the big screen through the news channel. The station quickly moves on to Florida, where Trump and his party are gathered, leading to a shift from cheers to jeers. Some things remain predictable, even in a close race.

It might take hours, days, or even weeks to find out if the optimism at Howard is truly rewarded. For now, the attendees are content, dancing the night away. The atmosphere is electric.
