- The highest smog alarm, code red, in Beijing Thursday revoked. Thursday afternoon, cars are allowed to drive again and Friday the schools open again. A cold front has blown away the suffocating smog.
The past three days the air was dangerous serious with 300 or more points on the Air Quality Index of the Chinese capital. It is now time for a fresh nose with values of only 55 on the index. The index value 55 in Beijing is still more than twice as much as what the World Health Organization holds for maximum acceptable air pollution.
It is not known how long the sky was blue and clean stay in Beijing. Meteorologists fear that in the night from Friday to Saturday the weather changes so that again creates smog.
