moscow - At the presidential elections in Russia the polling stations report a higher attendance than six years ago. The polling stations opened Sunday at 8.00 am local time in the densely populated western part of the country.

On the night before, voters in the Far East and in Siberia had already voted. On the far-eastern Kamchatka peninsula, the regional electoral commission reported a turnout of 54.1 percent of voters in the first seven hours. At the last presidential election in 2012 that was 46.1 percent. A rise in attendance of six percentage points was reported from the Siberian Irkutsk region.

Head of State Vladimir Putin headed for another six years in the highest office. The seven other candidates are against the concentrated power of the Kremlin as a chance.
