Help to illegal immigrants from now on punishable in Hungary

World June 20, 2018 15:48

budapest - The Hungarian parliament has passed a law that makes certain forms of assistance to illegal immigrants punishable. The law will mainly make the work of aid organizations more difficult.

Repeated violation of the law, which was adopted by a large majority, can result in a prison sentence of up to one year. The law is called Stop Soros, referring to the philanthropist George Soros who supported aid organizations and thereby took the fury of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The aid organization is now prohibited from entering the EU's external border in an area of eight kilometers to assist refugees. Earlier, a law was passed that restricted the financing of aid organizations from abroad.
