Guatemala moves embassy to Jerusalem

World December 25, 2017 05:48

guatemala city - Following the United States, Guatemala is the second country to announce that it is moving its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. President Jimmy Morales wants to support the decision of his American counterpart Donald Trump who came to the same decision earlier this month.

Morales made the statement shortly after a meeting he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump's decision has led to criticism and protests throughout the world in recent weeks. Especially the Palestinians are angry because they see East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. The decision of Trump is therefore particularly sensitive. In the United Nations too, the American decision was greeted with only negative reactions.
