smyrna - A group of seven burglars broke into the home of a deceased man in the state of Georgia, USA, while his mummified body was still inside, according to local news channel WANF.

Police reported that 71-year-old Robert Westbrook, the owner and sole resident of the house in Smyrna, Georgia, died of natural causes approximately three months ago. His body had been in the bathtub all that time while the burglars broke into the house and stole his belongings, including his credit cards and money.

The police got wind of the situation after a concerned neighbor's report. When officers rechecked the house, they found four suspects with Westbrook's possessions in their car, ready to flee. Three other suspects were later apprehended.

"It shows their lack of a moral compass," said detective Daniel Goduto. "They broke into someone's home, saw him dead, and just decided to move in."

The exterior of Westbrook's house was overgrown, making it look abandoned and an easy target for the burglars. Police urge residents to be more vigilant, especially if they notice a house looking neglected.
