Grace for 188 Moroccan prisoners

World August 22, 2018 06:32

casablanca - The Moroccan king Mohammed the Sixth gave 188 prisoners pardon Tuesday evening because of the sacrifice. It concerns people who were arrested in 2016 and 2017 and detained during riots and protests in the Rif in Morocco. Several demonstrators are serving long prison sentences. How high the penalties were for the released prisoners is unknown.

Hundreds of people who have also been arrested during the riots have not received any grace and are still in prison. Other riots broke out after the arrests.

The protests broke out in 2016 after a fisherman was crushed in a garbage truck. He protested against the municipality that had seized his merchandise.
