moscow - The last leader of the Soviet Union praised the contribution George H. W. Bush made to ending the Cold War. Mikhail Gorbachev said that the late American former president was a 'true partner' at the time, news agency Interfax said.

Bush and Gorbachev, as leaders of their countries, signed a treaty on the restriction of nuclear weapons. That happened before the fall of the Soviet Union. The communist empire collapsed in the early 1990s when Bush was the president of the United States.
