Users who search through Giphy for a relevant GIF for their conversation on, for example, Facebook Messenger, Twitter or Tinder, could later encounter a sponsored image of a particular company. Techcrunch gives an example of a Starbucks GIF for someone looking for 'Monday morning'.
When the sponsored GIFs are making their entry, it is not known. Worldwide, Giphy's search engine is used daily by over 200 million internet users.
