- The Democrat Andrew Gillum, who hoped to become the first black governor of Florida, resigned to his election defeat. A recount of votes does not seem to offer any solace. Gillum congratulated his Republican rival Ron DeSantis with his victory.
Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, had admitted his defeat before, but pulled it in when the difference in votes turned out to be minimal; small enough for an automatic recount. On Saturday, when the recount was nearing completion, Gillum still agreed with the result.
