berlin, germany - Germany's new government led by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announces stricter asylum policy, allowing for the return of asylum seekers at the border, except for vulnerable individuals.

Germany Tightens Asylum Policy

Germany's new government, under Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, has introduced stricter asylum measures, permitting the return of asylum seekers at the border, with exceptions for vulnerable groups like pregnant women and children.

Key Changes and Promises

Minister Dobrindt revoked a 2015 verbal instruction to allow asylum seekers at the borders and announced increased police presence to curb immigration.

During their election campaign, Dobrindt and Chancellor Friedrich Merz pledged to reduce illegal migration, with Germany having enforced border checks since September last year, including those with the Netherlands.
