chemnitz - A 22-year-old Iraqi man arrested in East German Chemnitz for a stabbing in which a 35-year-old German was killed last month is released.

The lawyer of the defendant Yousif A. told German media that there are no indications that his client was actually involved in the death of the German. That is why the judge leaves him free as counsel.

Yousif A. was close to the stabbing, but had no part in it, according to the lawyer. In the night of 25 to 26 August, the 35-year-old victim was stabbed to death in the street. Three asylum seekers were then regarded as suspects, including Yousif A. The incident led to demonstrations and sometimes irregularities in Germany, in which the migration policy was central. Of the two remaining suspects one is still in prison and the other is fugitive.
