berlin - The chief of the German intelligence service BfV, Hans-Georg Maassen, who had to leave following controversial statements about disturbances in Chemnitz, does not become a state secretary. This apparently has an important point of conflict between CDU, CSU and SPD. The German news agency DPA has heard about this in coalition circles.

Earlier, the German government announced that Maassen resigns and will work as State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Horst Seehofer. Which post Maassen will receive in the future is still unclear. He would stay at the same salary level as before.

In the event of disturbances in Chemnitz last month, images were distributed from right-wing extremists who would hunt for migrants or people with a foreign appearance. The images provoked fierce reactions. Maassen publicly commented that there was no evidence that these images were real. This was criticized by the security chief of a storm.
