atlanta - A 72-year-old man was executed in the US state of Georgia for a murder in 1979. That US media reported Wednesday. Brandon Astor Jones was the oldest inmate on death row in the state.

The death sentence was carried out with an injection in the prison in the city of Jackson, Tuesday after a final attempt to avoid was swept by the right of the table. Jones robbed in 1979 a manager of a supermarket, Roger Tackett. He did it with another. Both were arrested shortly after the murder and sentenced to death.

The accomplice was electrocuted in 1985. Jones knew his execution for decades to postpone legal proceedings.
