Gap says sorry for 'incorrect' China shirt
shanghai - Clothing company Gap has apologized for the sale of a T-shirt with an 'incorrect' map of China. On Chinese social media photos of the garment had appeared, on which the country would have been depicted without areas like Tibet and Taiwan.
Gap said in a statement that the garment was removed from the shelves in China. 'Gap Inc. respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China ', the company emphasized on microblog Weibo.
The clothing company said that a wrong card was printed on the shirts. 'We offer our sincere apologies for this unintended error. '
The photos of the shirt would have been taken at a store in Canada. Gap promised to take measures to prevent such incidents from now on. Many large, foreign multinationals are nowadays as dead to kick the China regime on the toes, since the country is on top of such errors, and has previously taken action against brands for sensitive errors.
China annexed Tibet in the fifties. Beijing also sees the island of Taiwan as part of China.
