barcelona, spain - Frenkie de Jong has renewed his contract with Barcelona, securing his stay at the club until 2029, despite previous uncertainties. The midfielder's new deal reflects adjustments in his base wage.

Frenkie De Jong Signs New Contract with Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong has committed to Barcelona by signing a contract extension that binds him to the Catalan club until 2029. This agreement follows prolonged negotiations and a change in the player's representation earlier this year.

Contract Details and Background

De Jong's decision to extend his contract comes as a relief to Barcelona, as his previous deal was set to expire soon, potentially opening the door for offers from other clubs. The 28-year-old midfielder's base wage has been adjusted in the new contract, a departure from his previous agreement with the club. His initial contract, signed amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, involved adjustments to his salary structure, which led to discussions about his future in 2022.

Player's Loyalty and Achievements

Despite interest from clubs like Manchester United, De Jong has consistently expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona. Since joining the club from Ajax in 2019 for €75 million ($86.86m), he has become a key figure in the team, making significant contributions on the field. With over 250 appearances and six trophies, including two LaLiga titles, De Jong has evolved into a seasoned player and an integral part of the squad under various managers.

His partnership with Pedri in midfield has been crucial for the team's performance, particularly under the guidance of current coach Hansi Flick.
