French unrest on private speed traps

paris - The French association 40 million motorists' Monday alarm beaten about the government plans to privatize speed traps. This is a trick to get billions in according to the association. The interest group fears that soon it will be raining fines and the French state makes sure the drivers cheat EUR 2.2 billion per year.

On Friday, the government is expected to detail the implementation of the plan. From September were private companies with speed cameras roads in cars go up to 'harvest' the fines. There's already done a trial in Normandy with private speed controllers, but without the speeding drivers were fined.

The authorities stress that the police hardly has time to keep speed traps, which are needed for road safety. Last year in France 3469 people died in traffic nearly ten per day.

Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux emphasized that the private companies that deal with the speed cameras in cars on the road only transport the goods. The controls themselves remain the responsibility of the police. The problem is that equipment is already available for driving controls, but is hardly used. Le Roux has also assured that the companies involved will only be paid per hour of work, not the number of fines they hand out.
