paris - A year after her death, the former French politician and female rights activist Simone Veil was buried together with her Antoine in the Pantheon, the civilian temple in Paris. President Emmanuel Macron said that Simone Veil was a woman who made 'France bigger and stronger'.

Many hundreds of people stood on the street to see the procession with the coffins of Simone Veil and her husband passing by. Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (Education) posted on Twitter 'a proper tribute for an impressive woman who has worked tirelessly for women's rights and European cooperation. '

Simone Veil died on 30 June 2017 at the age of 89 at home in Paris. Veil was a well-known figure in French and European politics. She was Minister of Health and the first female president of the European Parliament.

She was an important champion of women's rights. She was also one of the few French Jews who survived the deportation to Auschwitz.
