brussels - The Belgian electronics chain Krëfel must pay thousands of Belgians their purchase price for their new television. The chain had promised as a marketing stunt that if the Red Devils scored more than fifteen goals they would get their money back. On Saturday, Belgium convincingly defeated England with 2-0. That brought the total number of goals to sixteen.

Since the 1980s there were only two countries that scored more than fifteen times at a World Cup: Germany (18 goals in 2014, 16 in 2010) and Brazil (18 goals in 2002).

The company responded quite quickly on Twitter that their promise is obviously being met. According to Krëfel, in April several thousand Belgians bought a TV of at least 55 inches. They get their money back. According to Belgian media, the stunt costs the company about one million euros, but Krëfel has insured itself to limit the financial risk. Moreover, the money is paid out in vouchers.
