Fraudsters made a good living in the Grenfell disaster

World June 7, 2018 14:06

london - The British police have arrested nine people who mistakenly claimed to be victims of the lethal tower fire in London. They could put sums of money from 20,000 to 100,000 pounds (about 23,000 to 113,000 euros) in their pocket, reports the police.

The suspects, for example, used housing or surcharges for the victims of the fire in the Grenfell Tower. There were more than seventy deaths last year. 'It is completely unacceptable that people try to benefit from such a human tragedy,' said the head of the research. The nine suspects, eight men and a woman, were arrested at different locations in London.

It is not the first time that people are trying to take a slice of the provisions for victims of the disaster. So far, three fraudsters have been sentenced to prison sentences, the BBC reports. They claimed to have lost family members during the fire to get money or housing. One of them would even have met Prince Charles by pretending to be a victim.
