tel aviv - The food supply in Gaza faces disruption as Israel, backed by the US, introduces a new distribution plan not supported by aid organizations. Read more on telegraaf.nl.

Food Supply Disruption in Gaza Sparks Controversy

The food supply chain in Gaza is facing challenges as Israel, with US support, unveils a new distribution plan that lacks backing from aid organizations. The United States has reportedly threatened to withhold funds from UN agencies unless they comply with the new plan set to be revealed this week.

US-Influenced Distribution Plan

The US is in talks with Israel to potentially assume temporary governance of the Gaza Strip, mirroring the post-Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq. Israeli forces are preparing for a major offensive against Gaza, including a new aid distribution mechanism to prevent Hamas from diverting resources.

Challenges in Implementation

Despite satellite evidence of distribution center construction in southern Gaza, the UN and aid groups are reluctant to participate in the forced relocation of Palestinians. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, financed by undisclosed entities, is proposed to manage the operation, with concerns raised over potential food shortages and security risks.

Humanitarian Concerns and Political Standoff

The Humanitarian Country Team warns that the plan could leave vulnerable populations without food, endanger lives, and perpetuate forced displacement. The situation is exacerbated by the UN's assessment of Gaza's dire humanitarian crisis, aggravated by the ongoing blockade enforced by Israel.

International Response and Legal Scrutiny

The International Court of Justice is deliberating on the blockade's legality, while the International Criminal Court has leveled accusations against Israeli leaders for using food as a weapon. The Israeli government maintains conflicting views on Gaza's food sufficiency, amid escalating tensions within the coalition over blockade policies.
