sarajevo - Bosnia and Herzegovina are facing the worst floods in years, resulting in at least fourteen deaths and several people missing.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are currently experiencing the most severe flooding in years, with at least fourteen casualties reported and several individuals missing. The central region of the country has witnessed the destruction of homes, roads, and bridges.

Local media outlets have highlighted that multiple rivers have overflowed their banks, leading to heavy rainfall and landslides. The fatalities occurred in the municipality of Jablanica, approximately 70 kilometers southwest of the capital, Sarajevo. The regional authorities have reported that a significant number of individuals are considered missing.

Rescue teams have been evacuating people in Jablanica using boats, as it has been challenging to reach the affected areas through other means. A spokesperson for the canton encompassing Jablanica stated that such a substantial crisis has not been experienced since the Bosnian civil war in the 1990s, emphasizing the shocking scale of the current situation.

The head of the civil protection service mentioned that rescue efforts have been hindered in various locations due to blocked roads. Furthermore, the substantial amount of rainfall forecasted will continue to hamper their work. Unfavorable weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend.
