Tragic Discovery of Five Skiers in Swiss Alps
The bodies of five skiers were found near Zermatt, Switzerland, following a search operation that utilized helicopters. The police reported that the bodies were quickly located on a glacier from the air.
Suspected Avalanche Incidents
It is believed that the group fell victim to snowslides or avalanches. Three bodies were located on an avalanche cone, with a 200-meter distance from the others, as per local media reports. The identities of the deceased individuals have not yet been disclosed.
The Rimfischhorn, with a peak of nearly 4200 meters, is a popular destination for skiers and mountaineers due to its mountains and glaciers.
Increased Avalanche Risk
Warmer temperatures in spring usually bring a higher risk of avalanches. In a separate incident, the Kandersteg police announced that three individuals were swept and buried by an avalanche near the Morgenhorn mountain, approximately 50 kilometers north of Rimfischhorn, on Saturday. Two individuals were rescued, but regrettably, a Swiss man lost his life.
