Five Shipwreck Survivors Rescued After 55 Days at Sea

A group of five fishermen from Peru and Colombia were saved after being stranded at sea for 55 days, relying on resources like seawater and rainwater for survival. They were rescued by a tuna boat near the Galapagos Islands.

Challenges at Sea

The fishermen encountered difficulties early on due to a damaged dynamo on their boat, leading to malfunctioning communication and navigation systems. With no electricity onboard, they resorted to extreme measures, including drinking rust water from the engine and catching fish for food.

The Ecuadorean navy reported that the men also consumed rainwater and seawater to sustain themselves during the ordeal.

Safe Return and Previous Incidents

Authorities are ensuring the fishermen's safe return home, collaborating with local and international agencies. This incident follows the recent rescue of another Peruvian fisherman, Máximo Napa, who spent 95 days adrift at sea before being saved and reunited with his family in Lima.
