philippines - Filipino Vice President Sara Duterte allegedly claims to have hired a hitman to assassinate sitting President Ferdinand Marcos, his wife, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Filipino Vice President Sara Duterte allegedly claims to have hired a hitman to assassinate sitting President Ferdinand Marcos, his wife, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

According to Duterte, hiring a hitman is not a joke. The vice president seems to be trying to protect herself from a potential assassination attempt.

The Presidential Security Command of the Philippines has immediately stepped up security for the sitting president following the statements, as reported by the New York Post.

The security command describes this as a 'shameless public statement' and considers it a serious matter of national security. The action adds fuel to the fire in Filipino politics, just before upcoming elections are due. A new president will be elected in May 2025.

The vice president was a former ally of President Marcos, but the gap between Marcos and Duterte has widened with Duterte's alleged threat.
