FIFA Dismisses Malaysia FA's Appeal Over Forged Documents

FIFA has upheld its decision to dismiss Malaysia Football Association's appeal regarding the use of falsified documents in player eligibility cases, causing upheaval in Malaysian football.

Allegations of Falsified Documents

In a ruling last month, FIFA found Malaysia FA guilty of breaching disciplinary code Article 22 by submitting forged documents to prove players' eligibility based on Malaysian heritage.

Player Eligibility Controversy

Seven overseas-born players, including Gabriel Palmero and João Figueiredo, were granted Malaysian citizenship and played in a match against Vietnam. However, a subsequent complaint triggered FIFA investigations into the documents' authenticity.

The investigations by FIFA's disciplinary committee secretariat led to the rejection of Malaysia FA's appeal.

The upheld punishments raise questions about player eligibility and the integrity of Malaysian football moving forward.
