FBI warns against Russian hackers

World May 25, 2018 22:33

washington - The FBI warned Friday for Russian computer hackers who have infected hundreds of thousands of routers worldwide in homes and offices. This gives them access to information from the user or can lay down their internet traffic.

The US Federal Investigation Office advises the owners to turn their devices, of all kinds of brands, on and off and to download software updates that offer better protection. According to the FBI, routers are infected in more than fifty countries, although Ukraine seems to be the main target.

The cyber criminals involved are united in the Sofacy group, which would be in contact with the Russian government. Sofacy, also known as Fancy Bear and APT28, is suspected of breaking into the computer system of the Democrats during the presidential election of 2016. Earlier this week, Cisco Systems Ukraine already warned of a cyber attack from the neighboring country.
