mechelen - David G., the father of kidnapped baby Santiago, was arrested for burglary after fleeing with the baby to Belgium and then the Netherlands.

Father Arrested for Burglary

David G., the father of kidnapped baby Santiago, was arrested for burglary in Heffen, Belgium. The baby was taken from a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois by David G. and his mother, sparking a Europe-wide search in October 2024.

The couple fled to Belgium and then to the Netherlands, where they were apprehended a few days later. Baby Santiago was found in good health despite needing constant care.

David G. and his accomplice were caught in the act during a burglary in Heffen. They fled from the scene but were later captured after a police chase. The accomplice confessed to the crimes, while David G. remained silent during police questioning.

Both individuals were linked to other burglaries in Brasschaat and Brecht. They were presented before a judge on Saturday and were remanded in custody. David G.'s lawyer declined to comment on the case.
