Organized Gang Exposed for $35 Million Scam

An organized gang in Georgia, known as 'skameri,' defrauded thousands of individuals in the UK, Europe, and Canada by using deepfake videos and fake news. Operating from three office buildings in Tbilisi, 85 gang members convinced 6,000 people worldwide to invest in fake cryptocurrencies through their call center. They utilized deepfake videos featuring celebrities like Elon Musk and fabricated investment news to lure victims. The most affected were British citizens, losing a third of the stolen money. The victims were persuaded to open accounts in major financial institutions like Revolut and Chase, with the scammers spending the stolen funds on luxury items and extravagant parties. An elderly former doctor in London lost over $50,000 after spending more than 55 hours on the phone with the fraudsters.
