russia - A family member of Putin mistakenly reveals the number of missing soldiers during a meeting, causing a stir.
The official was immediately reprimanded by the head of the defense committee in the Duma, Andrei Kartapolov. He demanded that the comment not be included in the minutes. However, the damage was already done: the meeting was being broadcast live.
Anna Civilyova is the daughter of a relative of Putin. Last June, the dictator appointed her as one of the many deputy ministers of Defense. England placed her on a sanctions list in 2022 due to her family ties with Putin. The EU also considers her a 'close relative' and therefore suspicious.
Civilyova reacted with shock to the criticism. According to her, she only mentioned the number of requests from family members, not the actual numbers of the missing. Russian families, however, seem to have a different understanding: a request can only be made to the DNA bank if their son has been declared missing by the army, as indicated in Telegram groups.
