Expulsion threatens Salvadorans in the US

World January 8, 2018 16:15

washington - The US government wants to withdraw the temporary residence permit of 200,000 immigrants from El Salvador. As a result, many of them run the risk of having to leave the United States.

The Washington Post reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will announce the measure later on Monday. The immigrants from the Central American country would have until September 2019 to leave the US or apply for a new residence permit.

Most Salvadorans received a temporary residence permit after their country was hit in 2001 by a series of earthquakes. They caused great damage in their country.

According to The Washington Post, the measure to return the Salvadorans will fall particularly well with Americans who believe that foreigners with a temporary residence permit should not stay too long.
