- The Public Prosecutor in the German city of Schwerin accused a 95-year-old former SS member of assistance to the murder of at least 3681 people. The crimes were committed in the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, where the accused between August 15th and September 14th 1944 worked at the medical service.

The trial begins on February 29. Its course is dependent on the health status of the elderly accused. The prosecution has nearly a year working on the preparation of the case. The defender of the suspect fights the guilt of his client.
The court had last summer due to the health condition of the accused abandon the proceedings. On the basis of a psychiatric examination has now been decided that the process can begin.
The former SS man stood in 1948 even before a Polish court. That, however, convicted him solely on account of his membership in the SS. After having served his sentence, the man returned to Germany, where he was employed in agriculture.
