istanbul - The former president of Turkey Abdullah Gül will not participate in the presidential elections in June. He was pushed forward by a small Islamic party without his consent as a candidate but denied Saturday that he will take office against incumbent Head of State Recep Erdogan.
Gül stated that he wanted to participate if he had a broad movement behind him. However, it does not happen, he notes. It calls the atmosphere around the elections 'negative. '
Erdogan has put forward the presidential elections and the parliamentary elections to be held simultaneously. These will now take place on 24 June and not in November next year.
