brussels - The European Union has removed all economic sanctions on Syria, following the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad and the establishment of an interim government.

EU Lifts All Economic Sanctions on Syria

The European Union has officially lifted all economic sanctions on Syria, a significant move after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad and the formation of an interim government.

Key Decision

All EU member states had to agree to the removal of sanctions. Discussions were intense regarding concerns about the new regime's direction, with the decision ultimately aiming to stabilize Syria by providing jobs and resources for its people.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized the necessity of lifting the sanctions to facilitate stability in Syria, comparing the situation to Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

Monitoring and Conditions

The EU will closely monitor the situation and reimpose sanctions swiftly if the new regime deviates from expectations. Additionally, measures have been established against individuals and organizations involved in sectarian violence and human rights abuses.

Earlier this year, the EU had already begun lifting sanctions against Syria, with the recent decision marking the complete removal of economic restrictions.
