EU Extends Economic Sanctions on Russia

The European Union has decided to extend the duration of its economic sanctions on Russia for another 6 months. The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that Russia needs to pay the price for the damage it has caused. The decision was made during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states in Brussels.

Kallas emphasized that extending the sanctions would deprive Moscow of income to finance the war. The restrictive measures, initially imposed in 2014 due to Russia's actions in destabilizing Ukraine and significantly expanded after the Ukrainian attack in February 2022, will now be extended until July 31, 2025.
