Erdogan: US attack on Syria was not enough

World April 7, 2017 14:45

istanbul - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated the missile attack on the United States on Syria Friday as a positive development. But at the same time he said it was not enough and that 'serious steps' are needed to protect the Syrian people.

The US fired in the night from Thursday to Friday off cruise missiles at a Syrian air base, from which according to President Donald Trump earlier this week was launched a deadly chemical attack. It was the first time that the US carried out a direct attack on the government of President Bashar al-Assad in the six-year civil war.

'We think it's a positive and concrete step against the war crimes of the Assad regime. Is it enough? I think it's not enough. It's time to take serious steps to protect the innocent Syrian people, 'Erdogan said during a visit to the southern province of Hatay. 'I hope that the active attitude that showed the US in Idlib, the beginning is related to such developments,' said Erdogan.
