moscow - A Russian investigative journalist, Maxim Borodin, who wrote about the death of mercenaries in Syria, was killed by a fall from his apartment on the fifth floor.
According to the authorities in Yekaterinburg no suicide note was found and the chances are small that it is a crime.
A friend of Borodin told the BBC that he called a day early in the morning and said that 'there was someone with a weapon on his balcony and people with camouflage clothing and a mask on the landing of the stairs. '
Borodin wrote before his death about Russian mercenaries who were killed in February during a confrontation with American troops in Syria. The departing head of the CIA said last week that 'a few hundred' mercenaries died there.
