united states - A consortium led by Elon Musk offers $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT AI model.

Elon Musk's Consortium Offers $97 Billion to Acquire OpenAI

Under the leadership of Elon Musk, a consortium of investors has made a $97.4 billion offer to acquire OpenAI, the developer of the artificial intelligence model ChatGPT. Confirming the offer, Musk's lawyer Marc Toberoff stated that it has been presented to the OpenAI board. According to CNN, Toberoff mentioned, "It's time for OpenAI to return to its once open-source, security-focused power." The companies in the consortium include Musk's AI company xAI, Baron Capital Group, Valor, Atreides, Vy Capital, Joe Lonsdale's 8VC, and Endeavor led by Ari Emanuel.

'Let's Buy TWITTER'

In response to these claims, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman didn't delay in responding. Altman humorously replied to Musk's offer with an 'X' rating, saying, "No, thanks, but if you want, we (now X) can buy Twitter for $9.74 billion." Musk, in turn, responded to Altman's post by calling it a 'scam.' Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI as a non-profit artificial intelligence research company in 2015. Musk, who left the company in 2018 due to disagreements, argues that OpenAI has abandoned its core mission and is now operating solely for commercial interests. On the other hand, there are discussions that OpenAI's market value could reach up to $300 billion.
