malappuram, kerala, india - An elephant brought to a festival in India attacked people, leaving 17 injured. The incident took place during the Puthiyangadi Festival in the city of Malappuram in the Kerala state of India.

An elephant brought to the Puthiyangadi Festival, held in Malappuram city of Kerala, India, attacked people causing injuries to a total of 17 individuals, with one in critical condition.

The elephant named Pakkathu Sreekuttan was eventually brought under control, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The reason why the elephant attacked the people is yet to be determined. Videos recorded by bystanders show the elephant lifting a person into the air and throwing them to the ground.
