jerusalem - A Palestinian teenage girl filmed when she kicked and hit an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank gets eight months in prison. That follows from the deal she closed Wednesday with the military prosecutor, reported the news site of Haaretz in Israel. According to the deal, she would plead guilty against a reduced sentence.

Ahed Tamimi (17) became a heroine for the Palestinians after the incident on December 15 outside her home in the village of Nabi Saleh. It was streamed live on Facebook by her mother.

The trial against the Palestinian and her mother Nariman began last month before an Israeli military court. The authorities arrested the women after the video had surfaced in which the teenager strikes the Israeli soldier.

The images show how the women and a relative look for the confrontation with Israeli soldiers. The teenager strikes one of the men in the face. It gave her praise and criticism: in Arabic media she has been described as a symbol for the resistance against the Israeli authorities. Critics see her as a provocateur.
