Earthquake Alert on Santorini
In the past few days, around two hundred mostly minor earthquakes have been recorded on Santorini. Residents are urged to stay away from areas at risk of landslides and avoid gatherings in enclosed spaces. Schools will remain closed on Monday. The strongest quake so far measured 4.6 on the Richter scale.
Santorini, a popular holiday destination, attracted approximately 3.4 million visitors in 2023 to the island with over 15,000 residents in the Aegean Sea. The island's current shape is a result of a major volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, known as the Minoan eruption.
